Installation Guide for WGT19 Gear Couplings in Coke Ovens

1. Pre-Installation Preparation

  • Component Inspection: Verify the integrity of the WGT19 gear couplings, ensuring no cracks, burrs, or wear on the gear teeth. Confirm dimensional accuracy (e.g., pitch diameter, tooth thickness) to avoid meshing issues .

  • Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the couplings and shaft surfaces using a degreaser to remove contaminants, ensuring optimal adhesion and smooth operation .

  • Tool Readiness: Gather specialized tools such as torque wrenches, alignment devices, and anti-seize compounds. A gear puller may be required for removal of old couplings .

2. Installation Steps

  • Shaft Alignment: Use a laser alignment tool to ensure shafts are parallel and angularly aligned within tolerance. Misalignment exceeding 0.05 mm may cause premature wear .

  • Coupling Assembly:

    • Slide the coupling onto the shaft, ensuring the keyway aligns with the shaft key.

    • For interference fits, apply controlled heat (≤195°C) to the gear coupling or cooling agents (e.g., liquid nitrogen) to the shaft for easier installation .

  • Bolting and Torquing:

    • Secure coupling bolts diagonally in sequence to uniform torque values (refer to manufacturer specifications).

    • Apply thread-locking compounds (e.g., Loctite) to prevent loosening .

3. Post-Installation Validation

  • Dynamic Testing: Conduct a no-load test run to monitor vibration and noise levels. Excessive vibration indicates misalignment or improper tightening .

  • Lubrication: Apply high-temperature grease to gear teeth and sleeve bearings. Re-lubricate every 3–6 months based on operational cycles .

4. Safety and Maintenance Notes

  • Safety Precautions:

    • Wear PPE (gloves, goggles) during installation to avoid injury from sharp edges or flying debris.

    • Ensure power systems are de-energized before maintenance .

  • Troubleshooting:

    • Noise/Vibration: Check alignment, bolt tension, and lubrication levels.

    • Overheating: Inspect for improper torque or insufficient clearance .
